East Kensington is a neighborhood located in North Philadelphia. Fishtown is to the East and South Kensington to the West.  The area is known for its affordable homes and close proximity to public transportation. The area is near the commercial section of Frankford Avenue.  East Kensington is an up-and-coming neighborhood with a lot of potential. East Kensington was originally settled by German immigrants in the early 1800s. The area became known as a center for manufacturing and industry, with many businesses locating to the neighborhood. There are several parks in the area for residents to enjoy, including Norris Square Park and Palmer Cemetery. Norris Square Park is a popular gathering spot for residents. The park has a playground, basketball courts, and a spray pool. Palmer Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Philadelphia and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. East Kensington is an up-and-coming Philadelphia neighborhood that offers affordable housing and convenience to public transportation.
