Fall in Philadelphia Part 3
Fall isn’t just about apples and pumpkins. (although that is the best part!) But it also is known as “spooky season”. And since we’ve covered the best farms for apple and pumpkin picking, corn mazes, and family friendly fall activities, let’s talk about something a little more.. scary.
One of the best, and well known attractions around Philly to feel spooky is the Eastern State Penitentiary. Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary is an immersive experience featuring five different haunted houses! Haunted houses with mist and bloodthirsty vampires, foggy neon jungles where nothing is as it seems, a circus where evil takes center circle, and a new 2022 haunted house.
If haunted houses aren’t your favorite thing to participate in, there’s still plenty of spooky attractions. Because Eastern State Penitentiary is known for its haunted history, I recommend taking the flashlight walking tour led by a guide. It’s a tour of Cellblock 3, the Hospital Block, where you can learn the medical history that took place there and visit the operating rooms and other creepy places. The Kaleidoscope Hall is a walkthrough experience into a realm of shifting shapes and dazzling light. Watch it illuminate the crumbling walls and vaulted ceiling of the penitentiary. And it wouldn’t be spooky without some ghost stories.. gather around, roast some s’mores, and listen close as live apparitions share ghost stories that send shivers down your spine.
Once your all creeped out, you’ll probably be ready for some drinks and food. The beer garden is on the Eastern State Penitentiary’s old baseball field is featuring Triple Bottom Brewing Co. and some seasonal eats. The Bloodline Lounge is a vampire-themed cocktail lounge. If you happen to get VIP tickets, the Speakeasy at Al Capone’s Cell is where you want to be. Its a prohibition-themed cocktail lounge thats a cozy little hideaway with lounge singers. The Bizarre Bar is a carnival-themed bar. You might find some acrobats, magicians, and balloon artists… you never know what you’ll find in the shadow of the carnival tent.
