Places to Play Hockey In Philadelphia

As a Realtor in Philadelphia, I work with tons of individuals and families that are moving to the area and want to know where either they’re kids or themselves can play hockey in or around Philadelphia. While the sport is growing in popularity each year, it’s still a niche sport in most parts of the United States. I learned at age 2, that Philly is definitely a hockey town. I have watched the sport grow in this area and there are tons of places to play in the area. I have also seen several rinks shutter over the years in the area. Here is our list of places to play Hockey in Philadelphia.

Unfortunately, there aren’t that many rinks to play hockey at within the city limits. You will need to travel out to the suburbs to play at many of these rinks, but the Philly suburbs are beautiful, so it’s a great excuse to head to the suburbs.

Here is where to play Ice Hockey in the Philly area in no particular order.

  1. Wissahickon Skating Club – 550 W Willow Grove Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118 Website. This privately owned club opened it’s doors in 1956 and is located in Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia. The club went through a major renovation a few years ago and may have the best ice in the area. The club has a ton of history and famous NHL players like Mike Richter played here. The club offers a great youth hockey program along with a league for adult hockey.
  2. Class of 1923 Arena at University of Pennsylvania – 3130 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19104 Website. This rink has served the Philadelphia area for 45 years. The rink hosts collegiate hockey games and is the home of Snyder Hockey, a youth hockey program founded by the late Flyers owner Ed Snyder. The rink has stadium seating an unusual team bench setup with each teams bench being on opposite sides.
  3. Flyers Skate Zone – 10990 Decatur Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154 Website. This rink located in Northeast Philadelphia has hockey for all ages. Home of the Blazers. Adult hockey is also played here as is Sled Hockey.
  4. The Skatium – 1002 Darby Rd #3616, Havertown, PA 19083 Website – Home to youth and high school hockey games.
  5. Oaks Center Ice – 100 Pennco Rd, Phoenixville, PA 19460 Website. This rink is home to The Minutemen as well as the Valley Forge Colonials and has private hockey lessons for those interested.
  6. Hatfield Ice – 350 County Line Rd, Colmar, PA 18915 Website This 3 sheet ice rink is the home to youth hockey team Genesis, Girls hockey team The Lady Patriots, High School Leagues and Mens Leagues. The infamous Green Rink is often known as the coldest ice rink in the area. The rink is also the home rink of Arcadia University.
  7. Revolution Ice Gardens – 1621 Mearns Rd, Warminster, PA 18974 Website. Home of youth hockey team The Philadelphia Revolution and home of many High School hockey games and mens league games. The rink has two sheets of ice.
  8. Bucks County Ice – 1185 York Rd, Warminster, PA 18974 Website. One of the oldest rinks in Montgomery County that is still in existence. Was originally called Face Off Circle. Home of The Royals youth hockey program. Rink is next to a second rink which hosts the Bucks County Curling Club.
  9. Grundy Arena – 475 Beaver St, Bristol, PA 19007 Website. This historic rink is right in the heart of Bristol, PA. Two rinks and a pro shop. Home of youth hockey and high school hockey.
  10. Iceworks – 3100 Dutton Mill Rd, Aston, PA 19014 Website. One of the largest complexes in the area. 4 Sheets of Ice, A Pro Shop and full service bar and restaurant. Home of youth hockey including the Philadelphia Little Flyers, mens hockey, and college hockey.
  11. Ice Line – 700 Lawrence Dr, West Chester, PA 19380 Website. Another enormous area rink that features 4 sheets of ice, Pro Shop and a bar/restaurant. Home of The Junior Flyers and Team Philadelphia. Youth hockey, Adult Hockey, High School and Middle School Hockey
  12. Junge’ Pavilion – 3002 Cairnwood Dr, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009. This rink runs an amazing New Years Eve tournament regularly. Open to the air, which allows players to play in hockey with the crisp winter wind blowing across the ice.
  13. Spring Mountain Ice – 757 Spring Mt Rd, Schwenksville, PA 19473 Website. One of the newest area rinks is an outdoor arena located at Spring Mountain a popular place for skiing. The rink can be rented out for hockey or public skating.
  14. Pond Hockey – While not as popular as up north, there are places to play pond hockey in the Philadelphia area. The most notable is a an area across from the Willow Grove Mall that is filled in the winter and hockey is played here. Smaller rinks have been seen in peoples backyards as well.
